    The Slide Fire, reported just before 4 p.m. today, is currently estimated to be 20 acres, burning on the north side of Highway 89 in Oak Creek Canyon near Slide Rock State Park.

    Multiple firefighting units are responding, including two Hotshot crews, four engines, two helicopters, an air attack unit and Sedona Fire.

    Highway 89 may close to traffic near the Slide Rock area, and evacuations are being ordered for areas just north of Slide Rock State Park. It is unknown whether there are any structures threatened at this time.

    The fire is currently moving to the north and fuel treatments in the area have kept the fire from aggressive activity.

    The Badger Fire has closed Interstate 17 in both directions near Sunset Point north of Phoenix, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.
    The freeway is closed from mile 254 for northbound traffic to mile 262 for southbound drivers. The site is near the Sunset Point Rest Area about 35 miles north of Phoenix. There is no indication when the freeway will reopen.

    The Skunk Fire has consumed about 31,167 acres including fire growth and back burns.
    The fire continues to grow in a northwesterly direction along Nantac Rim towards Kidde Tank and easterly towards Dry Lake Road 1583 into ponderosa pine forest. The south side of the fire is still holding in the Ash Creek area. The East line is projected to hold and contribute to increased containment next week. South and North side of the fire is contained.

    Due to increasing fire danger the Prescott National Forest will implement Stage II fire restrictions effective Friday, May 23, at 8 a.m.

    These additional fire restrictions will remain in effect until forest officials determine that conditions have changed sufficiently to reduce the risk of human-caused wildfire.

    Stage II fire restrictions prohibit the following:

    • Building, maintaining, attending or using a fire, campfire, charcoal, coal, or stove fire, including fires in developed campgrounds and improved sites.
    • Smoking, except within an enclosed vehicle or building.

    The Barlow Fire, located 30 miles east of San Carlos on the San Carlos Apache reservation, is reported 6 percent contained. The estimate fire acreage is 1,163 acres. 

    Today there are three crews on board and four engine crews with air resources at work on the fire. There is still a concern with the threat to structures and power lines which will be closely monitored.
