Additional Resources Arriving on Woodbury Fire
The Type 1 Southwest Area Incident Management Team (Team 2) has taken command of the Woodbury fire, located within the Tonto National Forest.
On Wednesday, resources scouted the perimeter of the fire to find places to safely build fireline. They also visited surrounding communities to find the best strategy to protect homes, subdivisions, ranches, power lines, and other structures. The goal is to box–in the fire and keep it from impacting values at risk. Crews are also minimizing the impacts, where possible, to the fragile and scenic Sonoran Desert ecosystem.
Most of the activity Wednesday was on the western and southern edges of the fire towards Forest Road 172.
There was moderate fire activity on the northern edge within the boundary of the Superstition Wilderness, with heat at Roger’s Canyon.
Thursday brings severe weather of excessive heat and increased winds. Smoke is expected to increase.
Firefighter and public safety are the Team’s highest priority.
Many different fire personnel, engines, supplies and equipment have been ordered to assist with firefighting efforts.
