Weather: Partly cloudy today with a slight chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon. Temperatures 75 to 84 in the upper elevations and 97 to 101 at the valley floor with 5 to 15 mph southwest winds.
Yesterday’s Activity: Firefighters continued structure protection between Summerhaven and Willow Canyon and worked to contain and mop up the 3-acre spot fire near Radio Ridge. A direct line around the spot fire and a contingency line near Carter Canyon were completed. Crews monitored the fire backing down Green Mountain and along the Catalina Highway. Firefighters mopped up the area where the spot fire crossed Redington Road and along the Piety Hill Road (#649) in the Beuhman Canyon area. Crews chipped vegetation leftover from fireline construction in the Peppersauce Canyon area.
The remaining fire perimeter was in patrol status and equipment backhaul and suppression repair were performed in these areas. Crews monitored Sabino Canyon and initial attack resources were available for new fire starts in the area.
Today’s Activity: Firefighters will provide structure protection between Summerhaven and Willow Canyon and will monitor and mop up the 3-acre spot fire near Radio Ridge. Firefighters will mop up along the Piety Hill Road (#649) and in the Beuhman Canyon area. Chipping operations will be in conducted in the Peppersauce and Sabino Canyon areas. Patrol and mop up will continue along uncontained sections of line on the southeast fire perimeter. Equipment backhaul, fire suppression repair work and patrol will occur on the remaining fire perimeter. Resources will be available for initial attack on new fire starts in the area. Sabino Canyon area will be monitored.
