Final update for the Gentry Fire

Location: 12 miles southwest of Heber, AZ and 4 miles southeast of Forest Lakes, AZ near Black Canyon Lake on the Black Mesa Ranger District, Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests

Update: This will be the final update on The Gentry Fire unless significant events occur.

Management of The Gentry Fire has returned to the Black Mesa Ranger District. The Gentry Fire will continue to burn within the perimeter of established control lines until the area receives significant, repeated precipitation. Firefighters will continue to monitor and patrol the fire and take action as needed. Smoke may be visible rising from within control lines as the fire burns pockets of unburned fuels within the fire’s perimeter.

Recreation: The closure order associated with The Gentry Fire will be lifted at 2:00 p.m. today, July 4, 2017, reopening Black Canyon Lake, Black Canyon Rim and Gentry Campgrounds, as well as Forest Roads 300 and 86.

Overview: The fire was reported Wednesday afternoon June 28, 2017.  Initial attack crews were challenged by rugged terrain and heavy dead and down fuels within the 2002 Rodeo-Chediski Fire scar.
