  • Start date:  Observed from Black Rock Lookout on June 16
  • Location:  10 miles south of St. George, UT near Hodgets Canyon
  • Jurisdiction:  BLM Arizona Strip District
  • Fire size:  7 acres (due to better mapping)
  • Cause:  Lightning
  • Fire Behavior:  Smoldering, creeping
  • Closures: None, use caution when traveling in the area
  • Structures: None
  • Percent contained: Not reported
  • Fuels: Brush, Pinion, Juniper
  • Fire crews/Resources: 1 Hot shot crew, 1 Type 3 helicopter, 1 Type 4 Engine

Sand Cove fire summary:

  • Start Date:  Observed from Black Rock Lookout on June 15
  • Location:  30 miles SW of St. George, UT on Grand Canyon Parashant National Monument/Paiute Wilderness
  • Jurisdiction:  BLM Arizona Strip District
  • Fire Size:  57 acres
  • Cause:  Lightning
  • Fire Behavior:  The fire is expected to be active today
  • Closures:  None,  use caution when traveling in the area
  • Structures:  None
  • Percent contained: Not reported
  • Fuels:  Brush, Pinion, Juniper
  • Fire crews/Resources: 2 Engine modules
