Firefighters are responding to a wildfire on the Payson Ranger District.
The Horton Fire is burning on the Payson Ranger District. The fire is approximately 1.5 acres and is burning in Timber. The cause of the fire is unknown.
At this time there are 5 engines, 3 initial attack crews, 1 air attack plane and 2 helicopters assigned to the incident. Gila County Fire and Sheriff’s Department are responding along with the Christopher-Kohl Fire Department. There are no evacuations at this time. Smoke is very visible as the fire is 2 miles northeast of the Tonto Creek Fish Hatchery, Tonto Creek Estates and Tonto Creek Christian Camp.
The following trails have been closed: 31 Trail or Highline Trail between Tonto Creek Fish Hatchery and See Canyon, Horton Trail or 285 Trail and Derrick Trail or 33 Trail.
