The National Weather Service (NWS) is providing information that some areas in Pinal County may have periods of heavy rain sometime today through Saturday. Flash flooding or areal flooding may be possible. Pinal County is urging all Pinal County residents to be prepared and plan ahead. "Please prepare yourself and your family for the potential of flooding. Just a few inches of water can cause significant damage to homes and property," states Flood Control Section Chief Joshua Plumb. "For those residing in low-lying areas, sandbags can be an easy way to reduce the risk of your home getting flooded."
The Pinal County Public Works Road Maintenance Yards provide sandbags in several locations throughout the county. Please click on the link for details, contact, and location information. https://bit.ly/PinalSandbags. We recommend you call locations prior to visiting. Only sandbags and sand are provided. You will need to bring a shovel to load your own bags. We kindly ask you to limit your sandbags to 25 per household. We want as many Pinal County residents to have an opportunity to be prepared for possible flooding.
If certain areas begin to be heavily affected by rain, Pinal County will provide additional sandbag services, along with further information available on our social media channels and PENS (Pinal Emergency Notification System). If you have not registered yet, please visit www.pinal.gov/PENSalerts.
"NWS has indicated that this storm system will be similar to the July 2006 storm with a lot of localized flooding," emphasizes Chuck Kmet Pinal County Emergency Manager. "Prepareparess is key, pay close attention to the information provided by official sources and local news, and please sign up for PENS to receive important messages should your area significantly be affected. Grab some sandbags now versus being in a potential situation where later you may no longer have an opportunity.
