The Tussock Fire started on the afternoon of May 8, approximately 8 miles southwest of Crown King. The fire was mapped this morning (May 9) at 2,448 acres and has reached the Prescott National Forest boundary. Due to lack of moisture, hot, dry, windy conditions, and rugged terrain, a Type 1 Incident Management Team had been ordered to assist with incident management.
A GO Order for Evacuation has been issued for: Minnehaha, Fort Misery, and Horsethief Basin. Crown King is now at SET and should begin preparing in the event an evacuation order is issued.
Road closures: Portions of Old Senator Highway and Forest Road 711 are closed. Visitors should avoid the area as multiple firefighting resources will be using the area roads to reach the fire area.
Area residents should sign up with the Yavapai County Emergency Notification System - Code Red to receive any emergency alerts and become familiar with Arizona's READY-SET-GO program: https://ein.az.gov/ready-set-go
