Goat Fire north of Cherry 100 percent Contained

1/11/2021 - 8:42 pm

The Goat Fire, which was reported on Saturday, January 9, 2021 is 100% contained.  Firefighters reported very little interior heat and minimal smoke.  The 28-acre Goat Fire is burning west of HWY 260 and north of the community of Cherry at the end of Forest Road 360 (T14N, R3E, Sec 4).

The Goat Fire is a reminder that wildfires can happen any time of year.  We would like to remind the public that abandoned campfires are still the leading cause of human-caused wildfires.

  • Forest visitors are urged to follow campfire safety procedures.  It is every camper’s responsibility to properly maintain and extinguish a campfire to prevent wildfires.
  • Don’t let target shooting end with a wildfire.  Place your targets on dirt or gravel; and shoot in areas free of dry vegetation and avoid windy days.
  • If you are trimming brush and weed in your yard, make sure all portable gasoline powered equipment is equipped with a spark arrester.  This includes tractors, chainsaws, weed eaters and mowers.

Visit “Wildland Fire AZ” for more tips on “One Less Spark” and do your part to prevent wildfire.
