Great Arizona ShakeOut earthquake drill tomorrow, Oct. 18

October 17, 2018 - 1:40 pm

Tomorrow at 10:18 a.m. (Thursday, October 18th) millions of Arizonans will be asked to "Drop, Cover, and Hold On" in the state’s largest earthquake drill ever, The GREAT ARIZONA SHAKEOUT. The American Red Cross will be participating in the drill along with thousands of other organizations, agencies, and businesses across the nation.

Why is this drill important? Major earthquakes may happen anywhere you live, work, or travel. You may only have seconds to protect yourself in an earthquake before strong shaking knocks you down and objects around you. To respond quickly, you must know what to do.

The “ShakeOut” is a chance to learn and practice how to protect ourselves and be better prepared. The goal is to prevent a major earthquake from becoming a catastrophic disaster with loss of life.

Red Cross encourages the public to download the free emergency app, for guidance and direction when disasters strike. https://www.redcross.org/get-help/how-to-prepare-for-emergencies/mobile-apps.html
