Good progress was made yesterday. Firefighting strategies have taken advantage of the hot, dry
weather to achieve success with burning operations. Fire inside the perimeter is consuming available fuel and tying together burned areas to strengthen containment. Suppression repair was completed in the contingency areas. Resource advisors always play an active role in this work – their job is to provide input to the fire organization during and after the fire to ensure that natural and cultural resources at risk are protected. In the repair phase resource advisors work with crews to return damaged areas to as natural a state as possible.
TODAY’S ACTIVITY: Hot, dry weather is expected again today, supporting continued curing and ignition of available fuel within areas of burning operations. Firefighters will focus on patrol and mop-up to maintain existing containment lines on the southern, eastern and northern perimeters. Monitoring and suppression of concentrated areas of heat in the remote western edge of the fire will continue. Resource advisors will guide repair work along containment lines, including providing input on placement of water bars to prevent erosion and flooding.
DRIVING SAFETY: With the holiday weekend coming to a close, we remind the public that fire apparatus will be traveling to and from the fire throughout the day. Please drive carefully and watch out for fire crews.
