The National Weather Service has issued a Blowing Dust Advisory for today. It is in effect from 2:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. and includes the Phoenix Metropolitan Area and Northwest/North Central Pinal County.
A more favorable Monsoon pattern is setting up across the area today. Areas of widespread dense blowing dust are possible with thunderstorm outflows consolidating and tracking northwest. Elevated storm chances are supporting higher confidence of their associated hazards and impacts across Central Arizona today, possibly expanding westward to the lower Colorado River Valley into the evening and overnight hours.
Timing: Good chances for blowing dust and reduced visibilities into Central Arizona for the late afternoon/evening hours, with a chance for afternoon/evening thunderstorms both Friday and Saturday evenings across the region.
- Blowing dust and reduced visibilities particularly along the dust prone travel corridors south and southwest of Phoenix (I-8/I-10/SR-347/etc.).
- Gusty Winds
- Periods of brief heavy rainfall.
