The Pima County Health Department unveiled a new data dashboard today that is an easy to use, all-in-one mapping and data tool to help the residents of Pima County stay informed about COVID-19 in the community.
Users can search information by zip code, census tract, municipality or school district. More data functions may be added, based on feedback.
"I am thrilled to introduce this important tool, which provides real-time information to the public," said Health Department Director Dr. Theresa Cullen. "Good, accessible data is the crux of public health and the decisions we make, and I encourage everyone in Pima County to use it to make the best decisions for yourself and your family as this pandemic continues."
The dashboard contains five sets of data – overall cases and deaths in Pima County, and also by zip code, census tract, municipality, and school district. For each geographic set of data, there are several subsets – cumulative cases and cases by date, cumulative deaths and deaths by date, and cases and deaths by gender, age and ethnicity.
The dashboard also will aid the County’s contact tracing efforts and it was built for the county by Maximus, a Virginia-based health data company hired by the County to conduct COVID-19 contact investigations and tracing. Contact tracing is vital to stopping the spread of the virus in the county.
Pima County partnered with Maximus because of its experience in supporting public health programs for decades. Maximus is assisting federal, state, and local government in the COVID-19 response across the country. In addition to Pima County, the Company provides contact tracing and disease investigations in several states and counties across the nation The Company also is supporting the access to vital health information and COVID-19 test results response tracking.
"We realize that data interpretation is not everyone's strong point," added Cullen. "To make our data as useful as possible, we want people to understand what it means, so we’ve included a User’s Guide to address the most common questions we receive about it."
