Fire managers have completed all burnout operations around the 5,001-acre Newman Fire, and a reduced number of firefighting resources will remain on scene to monitor and keep the fire perimeter secured.
Containment will steadily increase as firefighters detect and extinguish sources of heat along the control lines, as well as assess and mitigate hazard trees along travel corridors and near recreational use areas.
Smoke may be visible from the Newman Fire until monsoonal storms bring significant precipitation to the area. Smoke impacts to the Lake Mary corridor and its recreational sites will be minimal.
The temporary closure order for the fire area will remain in effect until post-fire safety concerns have been assessed and mitigated.
