NWS Issues Flash Flood Watch

August 2, 2014 - 8:09 am

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch today through midnight. Visit www.weather.gov.

An upper low will move through Arizona and southern California today and Sunday leading to more numerous thunderstorms and elevated potential for flash flooding across the higher terrain and lower deserts.

The most likely time for showers and thunderstorms to produce flooding will be this afternoon and tonight. A Flash Flood Watch is in effect from noon MST/PDT to midnight MST/PDT. Lingering light showers are likely to continue Sunday morning. Anticipate significantly lower storms chances Sunday afternoon and evening as compared to today.

Hazards/Impacts:

  • Locally heavy rain producing flooding situations ranging from significant inconvenience to life threatening. Most areas will NOT experience dangerous flooding but the potential is there for a large number of spots to have problems.
  • Areas of strong winds causing locally reduced visibilities in blowing dust/sand.
  • The strongest storms will also be capable of producing localized damaging winds.
