The Pena Fire was reported this afternoon south of Peña Blanca Lake on the Nogales Ranger District, Coronado National Forest. The fire was estimated at 150 acres burning in grass and brush. This falls within the area under a red flag warning until 7 p.m. tonight for low relative humidity and gusty winds that result in critical fire weather conditions. Winds were predicted to be 15-30 mph, with gusts to 40.
There is potential for rapid fire spread, particularly in light fuels, and where wind and topography align. Multiple engines, crews, aircraft and various overhead personnel have been ordered.
