River Fire causes Forest Road 41 closure

September 6, 2019 - 10:11 am

Summary: The River Fire grew approximately 1,000 acres yesterday and overnight, and continues to burn on New River Mesa north toward Forest Road 41, away from communities and infrastructure. High heat and winds caused fire activity to increase. Fire crews worked through the night, conducting burnout operations ahead of the fire in an attempt to contain the fire south of Forest Road 41. Additional fire crews and aerial resources have been ordered to assist with the operations today.

In order to provide for firefighter and public safety, Forest Road 41 (“Table Mountain Road”) has been closed from the Tonto National Forest Boundary on the west to the junction with Forest Road 24 (Seven Springs). Additional closures in the area may be required as the fire progresses.

The southern and western areas of the fire remained mostly quiet and firefighters continue to monitor these areas closely. Preventing fire movement off of New River Mesa to the west, south and southeast remain a top priority.
