Sand Cove and Wolf Hole Fires being managed on the Arizona Strip

Fire managers for the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Arizona Strip District are continuing to manage two lightning-caused fires on the Arizona Strip.

The Sand Cove Fire was first observed from the Black Rock Fire Lookout on June 15, 2015.  It is located approximately 30 miles southwest of St. George, Utah on Grand Canyon-Parashant National Monument in the Paiute Wilderness.  The fire is 57 acres and will continue to be managed for multiple objectives.  Fire activity is smoldering and creeping.

The Wolf Hole Fire was observed from the Black Rock Fire Lookout on June 16, 2015. The 7 acre fire is located 10 miles south of St. George, Utah near Hodgets Canyon. As of Friday, June 19, the fire was contained and controlled.  Both fires are under monitor status.

Vegetation types on both fires include brush, pinyon and juniper. There are no road or trail closures associated with either fire at this time.  The public is urged to use caution when traveling in these areas.
