Summary: The September Fire was reported on Saturday afternoon, September 15, 2018. It is located above and west of Washington Park. It has burned approximately 6.5 acres on Tonto National Forest lands, and 3.5 acres on Coconino National Forest lands. Firefighting resources include a 20 person crew, fire engines from both the Tonto and Coconino national forests, and two water tenders from the Blue Ridge Fire Department. A helicopter will be dropping buckets of water in inaccessible terrain below the Rim on the Tonto National Forest. Fire personnel have been working to contain the fire and it has not significantly grown in size today.
Road Closure: To aid with firefighting efforts, a portion of the Rim Road, has been closed to the public. The Rim Road, FR300, is closed between FR 123 and FR 141. Barricades have been placed on the Rim Road, FR 300, at the junction of FR123, and at the junction of the Rim Road and FR 141. Anyone needing to get around the closed area can travel on FR 123 to FR 141H, continue to FR 141, and then back to FR 300. The public is being asked to avoid the fire area so that firefighters can safely complete their work.
