The fire perimeter along U. S. Route 60 and near the Top-Of-The-World community was heavily staffed overnight with firefighters who continued to monitor and mop up. This activity will continue for several days until smoldering fuel and unhealthy smoke no longer pose a risk to local residents. Night shift crews patrolled and monitored fire activity in the Pinal and Signal Peak areas, and will continue to do so today.
As the fire moves east toward Pioneer Pass, masticators are working along Pioneer Pass Road in anticipation of potential burn outs to stop the fire’s advance. (Masticators are large machines which grind up brush and woody material, clearing fuel from fire lines.) Firefighters are preparing a contingency line to the protect the values at risk near El Capitan.
