Viewpoint Fire triggers evacuations in Yavapai County

Around 1pm, Friday, May 11th, fire crews responded to a brush fire burning off the 89A at milepost 322, just 9 miles south of Chino Valley. The fire is burning through dry vegetation, including grasses and brush, and being fanned by the gusty winds. Structures are threatened, and fire personnel are working with the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office to evacuate residents along N. Poquito Valley Road, just north of Acre Way.

The fire is estimated to be 500 acres. Fire personnel, including engines and hand crews are working to stop the fire. Air support has also been ordered and is enroute. SR 89 is restricted to traffic between MM 320-323.
