Thunderstorms Douse Superstition Fire and Bring Moisture to Hidden Fire: Flash Flood Warnings

Be alert to flood warnings with thunderstorm activity.

SUPERSTITION FIRE: The HWY 88 corridor will be reopening at 6:00 am today, August 30, 2020 from Lost Dutchman State Park up to Fish Creek where the road was closed at the washout.

YESTERDAY: The Superstition Fire showed minimal growth yesterday and received heavy rain last night. Primary fire activity was in the northeast, within Superstition Wilderness.

Hidden Fire Grows to 4,035 Acres

The Hidden Fire is a lightning caused wildfire reported on 08/25/2020 that is burning on the border of the Tonto Basin and Pleasant Valley Ranger Districts. The fire is located near Chalk Mountain and Skunk Tank Canyon. The Hidden Fire is currently 4,035 acres, with 0% containment.

Hidden Fire Well Established at 2,700 Acres

The Hidden Fire is a lightning caused wildfire reported on 08/25/2020 that is burning on the border of the Tonto Basin and Pleasant Valley Ranger Districts. The fire is located near Chalk Mountain and Skunk Tank Canyon. This afternoon, the fire was mapped at 2,700 acres, with 0% containment.

Hidden Fire: “SET” Advisory for Jakes Corner

As a result of the Hidden Fire, the Gila County Sheriff's Office and Gila County Emergency Management have recommended that the following areas be placed on a “SET” mode on the Ready, Set, Go model:

  • 76 Ranch, all residents in the Highway188 corridor including Jakes Corner, Del Chi Ranch, Pioneer Pass, Brownsville, Slate Creek to the North end of Punkin Center and the Malon Pasture area (North Chaparral Trail, North Sierra Ancha Way, and Santo Sandia Lane)

Update: APS planned power outage now set for Friday 6/26, midnight to 3 a.m.

The planned power outage for APS customers in Punkin Center and the Tonto Basin area has a new start time and will last only three hours.

APS needs to de-energize lines to allow crews time to safely complete repairs to damaged equipment identified during assessments following the Bush Fire. Customers south of Jakes Corner will be impacted by the outage.

The work is able to be completed in a much shorter time than originally planned thanks to APS field personnel who have identified alternate ways to complete the repairs.

Bush Fire: GO advisory for Brownsville, Jakes Corner, Slate Creek, and Pioneer Pass Communities in Gila County

As a result of the Bush Fire, the US Forest Service, Gila County Sheriff’s Office, and Gila County Emergency Management has recommended that the following areas be placed on a “GO” mode on the Ready, Set, Go model:

  • Slate Creek 
  • Pioneer Pass

Bush Fire update: unfavorable weather conditions increase fire behavior

Residents of Sunflower have been told to evacuate and are now in “go” status, and visitors and residents at Apache Lake were asked to leave the area Tuesday afternoon.  Residents of Jakes Corner remain in “set” Status.

Bush Fire update: windy weather will increase fire activity

Residents of Sunflower have been told to evacuate and are now in “go” status.  Residents of Jakes Corner remain in “set” Status.
