The lightening- caused Skunk Fire, which started on April 19, has been in monitor status for the past 25 days. The low intensity fire has grown to roughly 2,000 acres and—with increased winds—has begun to show erratic fire behavior.
The fire is traveling north towards Old Summit repeater and the ponderosa pine forest at 7,400 ft. elevation, and backing south towards elevation of 5,600 ft. elevation towards Ash Creek into grassland and oak woodlands. The fire is burning on the San Carlos Apache Reservation.
Safety for fire fighters and the public is our number one priority.
