Firefighters now have the Viewpoint Fire 80% contained as of Saturday afternoon. The fire has been determined to be human caused, yet it's still unknown as to the actual source of the fire. Two primary homes, 12 other structures, 4 RV travel trailers, and 6 vehicles were destroyed in the fire.
Saturday's objectives for crews remain ensuring fire line stability due to the increasing winds and monitoring for hot spots. 140 fire personnel remain assigned to Viewpoint. The fire started around 11am Friday morning, roughly 9 miles s. of Chino Valley. It ran through dry vegetation, fanned by the winds, and grew very quickly before crews had forward progress stopped on the fire nearly five hours later.
