Yavapai County to conduct test of Emergency Alert System
The Yavapai County Office of Emergency Management (YCOEM) in coordination with the National Weather Service Flagstaff Office will conduct a county-wide test of the Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) and the Emergency Alert System (EAS) on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. This test will take place in conjunction with the weekly National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) weather radio test.
These alerts help send important messages to your cell phone, TV, or radio about things like severe weather, emergencies, and missing children. The goal of this test is to make sure the systems work well to keep residents in Yavapai County safe and aware during real emergencies. We encourage all residents with a NOAA weather radio to tune in to the frequency 162.525 megahertz (MHz) on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. for the weekly NOAA weather radio and EAS test.
The test will last about 30 minutes. During the test, your phone will make a special sound and vibrate, like an Amber Alert. Only residents who have turned on Test Alerts on their mobile devices will get this test message.
The test message will say:
“Yavapai County Emergency Management: This is a TEST of the Wireless Emergency Alert System for Yavapai County on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. In an actual emergency, this system would be used to share potentially life-saving information. No emergency action is required. This is only a TEST. Visit yavapaiready.gov to complete a survey regarding this TEST. Thank you.”
For phones set to Spanish, the message will display:
“Gestión de Emergencias del Condado de Yavapai: Esta es una PRUEBA del Sistema Inalámbrico de Alerta de Emergencias del Condado de Yavapai el miércoles 2 de abril de 2025 a las 11:00 a. m. En una emergencia real, este sistema se utilizaría para compartir información que podría salvar vidas. No se requiere ninguna acción de emergencia. Esto es solo una PRUEBA. Visite yavapaiready.gov para completar una encuesta sobre esta PRUEBA. Gracias.”
Cell towers will send the test message to WEA-compatible phones in range. These alerts come through the Integrated Public Alert and Warning System (IPAWS) and are accessible to everyone.
Please check your phone settings to make sure you can receive Emergency Alerts and Test Alerts. For more information about WEAs, EASs, and IPAWS please visit www.YavapaiReady.Gov/IPAWS.
