The Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests’ Lakeside Ranger District will be burning slash piles February 15, 2018. The ignition area is in the Timber Knoll Project area along Forest Service Road 3D and 9900L. Smoke impact is anticipated along U.S. Highway 60 and within the Vernon Community. Smoke may be visible from the communities of Show Low, Pinetop-Lakeside and Vernon.  In the interest of safety, forest visitors are reminded to use caution when traveling in the vicinity of the pile burn as smoke may reduce visibility in the area.      

The Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests’ Lakeside Ranger District will be conducting a 442 acre prescribed burn within the Sepulveda unit of the Los Burros broadcast burn area beginning on 12/14 and continuing through 12/15 if weather conditions allow.  

The Sepulveda Unit is about five miles south of Vernon, along Forest Service Road (FSR) 96, and is surrounded by FSR 6, FSR 6H and FSR 96B.

The Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests’ Lakeside Ranger District will continue burning the 3,960 acre prescribed burn within the Whitcom unit, weather dependent, north east of the community of Pinetop.  The district has completed approximately 3,100 acres.  Fire management proposes to burn an estimated 1,000 additional acres to complete this phase of the project from November 14 through November 17.

The Whitcom Unit is located northeast of Pinetop, along Forest Service Roads 182, 283, 283A and 185.

The Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests, Lakeside Ranger District plans to conduct a 15 acre prescribed burn Sunday, May 21, weather permitting. The prescribed burn is within the Marsh Unit which is located three miles north of Show Low on the west side of Arizona State Highway 77 near Telephone Lake (T10N, R22E, Section 5).

Minimal smoke impact is anticipated and may be visible from Arizona State Highway 77, U.S. Highway 60 and the local areas of Linden and Show Low

The Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests, Lakeside Ranger District plans to conduct a 15 acre prescribed burn today, May 12, weather permitting. The prescribed burn is within the Marsh Unit which is located three miles north of Show Low on the west side of Arizona State Highway 77 near Telephone Lake (T10N, R22E, Section 5).

Minimal smoke impact is anticipated and may be visible from Arizona State Highway 77, U.S. Highway 60 and the local areas of Linden and Show Low

The Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests, Lakeside Ranger District plans to start conducting a 3,960 acre prescribed burn on May 2 through May 8, weather permitting. The prescribed burn is within the Whitcom Unit which is located northeast of the community of Pinetop, along Forest Service Roads 182, 283, 283A and 185. The Country Club Trail will be impacted by the prescribed burn, north of Forest Service Road 185. Fire personnel advise that the public utilizes other trails for recreating during the duration of the prescribed burn for personnel safety.

The Lake Fire was called 100% contained yesterday evening with mop up of interior smokes completed.  Fire personnel will continue to monitor the fire for the next few days.  There may be little to no smoke visible in the area.  This is the last update unless significant activity occurs.

Fire Summary:

Fire personnel from the Forest Service and Timber Mesa Fire responded to a fire east of Show Low Lake at approximately 10:00 yesterday morning. Today fire crews will continue to mop up fire area until fire is extinguished. There will be pockets of heavy fuels inside the fire line that are still burning which will produce light smoke in the area. Smoke will be visible from Show Low Lake. Fire managers request the public stay clear of the area to allow fire crews to continue to work.
