The Jack Fire, located thirteen miles northeast of Happy Jack, Ariz., on the Coconino National Forest, is currently 800 acres in size. The fire, burning towards the northeast on both sides of the canyon, is burning in grass and pinyon-juniper near State Route 87.
This afternoon, firefighters put in dozer line around the right flank of the fire; the line is holding with the aid of air resources. Retardant and bucket work was used to hold the left flank with ground crews working to establish an indirect line. Firefighters will work into the night.
