With a favorable window of opportunity expected to remain open on the North Kaibab Ranger District for the remainder of the week, North Zone fire managers plan to commence this year’s prescribed fire season as early as tomorrow by initiating ignitions in the Moquitch 4 project area.

With the predicted onset of snow this weekend on the Kaibab Plateau, North Zone Fire Managers plan to begin preparations for burning hand piles at multiple locations across the North Kaibab Ranger District.
It is estimated that 100-200 acres of hand piles may be burned if weather conditions are agreeable.
Forest visitors should be aware that the planned treatment areas include Stina Point and the Dry Park Lookout area.
Due to increasing fire danger and the need to prevent human-caused fires, the North Kaibab Ranger District of the Kaibab National Forest will implement Stage II fire restrictions at 8 a.m. on Friday (June 13). These additional fire restrictions will remain in effect until forest officials determine that conditions have changed sufficiently to reduce the risk of human-caused wildfire.
