Extensive suppression repair work has occurred the past few days with little to no threat of fire crossing containment lines. A local type 3 organization will assume command of the fire tonight at 6 p.m. Today, the incoming type 3 incident commander is working closely with the team before they depart to ensure a smooth transition. This will be the final daily update from the incident management team. Future updates and information about the fire will be posted to Inciweb and the incident Facebook page through Memorial Day weekend.

Operations: Fire activity remains low as crews continue rehabilitating dozer and hand lines no longer needed for containment. Suppression repair crews are working rapidly to stabilize soils, restore drainage, and prevent long-term environmental damage. Fire managers emphasize that these efforts are crucial for protecting watersheds, reducing erosion, and supporting ecosystem recovery. As containment grows and work is completed, firefighters are rehabbing their equipment. Some are departing for home or to other fires.

Mandatory evacuation orders were lifted Monday night as containment increases along the fire.

All “GO” evacuation orders have been downgraded to “SET” status, lifting current restrictions and allowing residents to safely return to their homes.

Operations: Yesterday, another round of strong winds tested the fire's containment, but all control lines remained secure thanks to the extensive efforts of firefighters working along the perimeter. Overnight, crews continued patrolling the fire lines and extinguishing visible heat sources to prevent any flare-ups.

Highlights: Today high winds will be another test for firefighters holding the firelines.

Operations: Firing operations completed on Friday along HWY 260, State Route 261, and Forest Rd 409 proved to be successful yesterday as winds tested the fire’s edge. Crews were able to continue the largest remaining firing operation last night that connected Forest Rd 409 to the main fire on the south/southwestern edge.

Highlights: Firefighters’ hard work over the past several days will be tested by higher winds today and tomorrow.

Firefighters are working work day and night ahead of expected stronger winds this weekend.

The Greer fire was detected on private land midmorning Tuesday, May 13. The wind driven fire then moved on to Forest Service land, Arizona State Department of Forestry and Fire Management and the Forest Service joined into a multijurisdictional command. Today, Complex Incident Management Team 3, led by Matt Rau, assumed command of the Greer Fire at 6 a.m. today.

A community meeting is scheduled for today at 6:00 p.m. at the Round Valley High School Theatre to provide the latest updates and address public concerns.

After consultation with Forest Lakes Fire District and the United States Forest Service (USFS), areas of Coconino County within the boundaries of the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest will enter Stage 2 Fire Restrictions at 8 a.m. Thursday, May 15, 2025.

This decision, according to Coconino County’s Wildfire Defense Ordinance, will apply to all private property within the boundaries of the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest. This includes the unincorporated community of Forest Lakes and all private campgrounds and recreation areas.
