Arizona Strip

Fire managers for the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Arizona Strip District are managing a fire approximately 30 miles southwest of St. George, Utah, on the Arizona Strip’s Grand Canyon-Parashant National Monument. The fire is located within the Paiute Wilderness.

The lightning-caused fire was first observed from the Black Rock Fire Lookout on June 15, 2015 at 4pm. The fire is approximately 20 acres in size. Resources on the fire include one fixed wing air attack, one Type 3 helicopter and two engines. 

The Tweeds Fire is burning approximately 40 miles south west of St. George, Utah.  The fire is estimated at 70 acres and approximately 95 percent contained.

The Middle Bench Fire is burning approximately 70 miles south west of St. George, Utah in the Grand Wash Cliffs Wilderness.  The fire is 35 percent contained and is estimated to be 404 acres.

Start Date: Tuesday, July 8, 2014 2 p.m.

Jurisdiction: BLM Arizona Strip District

Cause: Lightning

Fire Behavior: Smoldering

Closures: No closures are in effect

Structures: None threatened

Fuels:  Cheatgrass, mixed brush, pinyon/juniper trees, and black brush; high fire spread potential

Evacuations: None

Injuries: None

The Gulch Fire, located on the Arizona Strip near Quail Hill is 100% contained. The lightning caused fire began July 2, 2014 at 6:15 p.m.

Fire management transitioned from a Type 3 team to the local unit on July 7, 2014. All resources have been released with one Type 4 engine remaining on the fire.

The lightning caused fire began July 2, 2014 at 6:15 p.m. Fire officials are requesting the public’s assistance in keeping the area clear for fire mitigation crews to work. Fire officials also ask that those traveling along the Quail Hill BLM 1069 road proceed with caution as fire vehicles and resources are entering and exiting the roadway in the vicinity of the fire. No closures are currently in effect.

Color Country Fire resources are managing a fire located on the Arizona Strip near Quail Hill. The lightning caused fire began July 2, 2014 at 6:15 p.m. As of 11 a.m. July 3, 2014 the fire was mapped with GPS at 340 acres.

Fire officials are requesting the public’s assistance in keeping the area clear for fire mitigation crews to work. Fire officials also ask that those traveling along the Quail Hill BLM 1069 road proceed with caution as fire vehicles and resources are entering and exiting the roadway in the vicinity of the fire. No closures are currently in effect.

Color Country Fire resources are mitigating a fire located on the Arizona Strip near Quail Hill this morning. The lightning caused fire which began July 2, 2014 at 6:15 p.m. is estimated between 100-150 acres. Fire officials are requesting the public’s assistance in keeping the area clear for work to continue by fire mitigation crews. No closures are currently in effect.
