An increased risk for wildfires due to hot and dry conditions prompt the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management (DFFM) to strengthen fire restrictions for some areas in northern Arizona. Starting tomorrow, and in conjunction with the Coconino National Forest, DFFM will implement Stage 2 restrictions on State Trust lands in Coconino County, south of the Grand Canyon. Campfires are not allowed under Stage 2 restrictions. Target shooting and fireworks are never allowed on State Trust lands.

The Coconino National Forest will implement Stage 2 fire and smoking restrictions beginning 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 18 as the threat of unwanted wildfires increases due to hot, dry and windy weather conditions.

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) announced the availability of low interest federal disaster loans to small businesses and private nonprofit (PNP) organizations in Colorado to offset economic losses caused by drought beginning March 25.
The declaration covers the Colorado counties of Dolores, La Plata, Montezuma and San Juan as well as the Arizona county of Apache, the New Mexico county of San Juan and the Utah county of San Juan.

Fire Managers made the decision early this morning to immediately suppress and contain the Horse Fire, a lightning-caused wildfire located 11 miles east of Clints Well on the Mogollon Rim Ranger District.
