Extreme heat

The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Warning for Mohave County: June 18-19; Gila, Pinal Counties: June 18-20; Cochise, Graham, Greenlee, Pima, Santa Cruz Counties: June 19-20; and a Heat Warning is ongoing for Coconino and Maricopa Counties through June 20. Daytime highs up to 116°F are expected. Public cooling centers are available in some areas. Stay cool and hydrated.

    Cochise County SO lifted the GO notification for some residents and returned them to SET

    Summary: Despite weather and topography challenges, crews continue to make good progress on the fire. With an increase in containment on Wednesday, today, the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office reduced the GO status for some residents impacted by the fire.

    Thursday morning, the Sheriff’s Office lifted the GO status and returned residents to SET in the areas south of Ironwood Road and west of Cochise Stronghold Road.

    All residents in SET have returned to READY.

    Prescribed fires planned on Verde Ranger District

    Fire Managers on the Verde Ranger District plan to conduct a prescribed fire operation in the Agua Fria area this week. The project is located between Dugas Road and HWY 169 on the east side of I-17. (See attached map).   Ignitions are planned to start Wednesday, April 30 and last just one day, pending suitable conditions. Fire crews plan to treat a large surface area with broadcast burning to improve wildlife habitat and range improvements by reducing brush encroachment in the Aqua Fria grasslands.
