"Cataclysmic" Cherry Chocolate Cobbler

When you're looking for a sweet, all American comfort food, keep calm and eat "Cataclysmic" Cherry Chocolate Cobbler!

Recipe Ingredients: 
  • 2 cans of cherry pie filling
  • 1 box yellow or white cake mix
  • 1 12-oz. can of Sprite or 7-Up
  • 1/2 cup dark chocolate chips
Directions: 
  1. Dutch oven preparation:
  2. Pour cherry pie filling into a 6-quart dutch oven.
  3. In a bowl, combine Sprite or 7-Up with cake mix. Batter will be lumpy.
  4. Pour cake batter over the top of the pie filling.
  5. Sprinkle dark chocolate chips on top.
  6. Bake with 20 coals on top & 10 on bottom, until cake is golden color, about 25-30 minutes.
  7. Conventional oven preparation:
  8. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  9. Pour cherry pie filling into a 13 x 9 baking dish.
  10. In a bowl, combine Sprite or 7-Up with cake mix. Batter will be lumpy.
  11. Pour cake batter over the top of the pie filling.
  12. Sprinkle dark chocolate chips on top.
  13. Cover with foil & bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes.
  14. Remove foil & bake for an additional 40 minutes.
Cooking Tips: 

Prepare this cobbler in a camp-style cast iron dutch oven. Be sure that your dutch oven has a lid with a lip so that hot coals can be set on top. This simple recipe can be baked over a campfire so that you can enjoy it even when the power is out!
