The Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest’s Lakeside Ranger District will be burning slash piles February 5 through 8, if weather conditions allow. The piles are located within the Billy Timber Sale area just North of Pinetop Country Club along Forest Service Road 182, and are scattered across roughly 165 acres of forest land. Possible smoke impacts are anticipated along Highway 260 and within the Pinetop- Lakeside Community and Sky Hi Retreat.
The Springerville Ranger District on the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests plans to continue prescribed fire operations as soon as tomorrow. The district plans to burn approximately 400 acres on the Garris JPB Unit, which is adjacent to Red Cabin Ranch and five miles southeast of Vernon.
Smoke will be visible from Round Valley, Arizona State Highway 260, and U.S. Highway 60. The burn will enhance wildlife habitat and watershed conditions while promoting forest health and protecting communities from the effects of future high severity wildfire.
