Pima County Department of Environmental Quality (PDEQ) is issuing an advisory for ground-level ozone air pollution for the Tucson metropolitan area today. Particulate matter levels will also likely be elevated due to the Contreras Fire southwest of Tucson. Individuals who are especially sensitive to air pollution may experience shortness of breath, coughing, throat irritation, wheezing, and breathing discomfort.

The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality has issued an Ozone High Pollution Advisory for Thursday, June 16.

Restrictions

  • Wood burning in residential fireplaces, chimeneas, outdoor fire pits, and similar outdoor fires is prohibited in Maricopa County. This includes individuals and businesses which have burn permits for open burning.
  • Employees and contractors of government entities are prohibited from operating leaf blowers. Residents are encouraged to avoid leaf blowing during HPAs.
  • Off-road vehicle use should be avoided.

Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests continue responding to the Fish Fire

The Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests personnel are continuing their response to the Fish Fire, located on the Alpine District of the forest. The fire is southwest of Hannagan Meadows on Hwy 191.

The fire was initially reported on the 10th of June. As of June 15th at 6:30 PM, the fire was estimated to be 1,900 acres. The strategy of confining and containing the fire is continuing to be employed by resources on the ground.
