Both the Adams Peak and Robles Fires remained active throughout the day today (Thursday, July 20, 2023) due to high temperatures and low relative humidity. The fires are burning through grass and brush, with the Robles more terrain driven. Today the Robles Fire backed down to the nearby community and ground crews along with aircraft worked to keep the fire from encroaching structures. Hand crews conducted additional firing operations along Touchstone Road to redirect the fire away from the homes. The most significant activity is on the west and north sides. On the Adams Peak Fire today, heavy air tankers worked the north side of I-10 to help slow the fire’s progression and keep it from impacting the highway. Yesterday, a microburst impacted the Adams Peak and high winds pushed the fire back toward the 10.
An aerial reconnaissance flight this morning reports the Adams Peak Fire at approximately 500 acres and the Robles at 3,000 acres. The Department of Forestry and Fire Management (DFFM) complexed both fires into the Adams Robles Complex Fire. The fires have not merged, they are just being managed as one incident. While the threat to Cochise County communications infrastructure has significantly decreased, crews continue to take proactive measures to protect the infrastructure. The Robles Fire is burning on the south side of Interstate 10 and the Adams Peak is burning on the north side. Smoke off both fires may impact I-10 and drivers in the area should use caution.
