The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for La Paz County in Arizona today through July 5, 2024. Public cooling centers are available in some areas. Stay cool, stay hydrated, and stay informed.
The Arizona Department of Emergency and Military Affairs and local resources are responding to a fire that began late last night, June 5th, on Camp Navajo, located west of Flagstaff.
The fire is reported to be approximately 1,000 acres. The fire is being approached with a full suppression strategy. Details on the origin of the fire are still under investigation.
The Northern Arizona Type 3 Incident Management Team is the incident command authority. Coordination with internal Arizona National Guard resources and local agencies is ongoing.
Equipment and manning consist of approximately 150 fire fighters, 8 air tankers, an air attack air asset, lead plane, 4 helicopters, as well as multiple engines, 2 Hotshot crews and 2 Hand crews.
Camp Navajo is closed to all non-essential persons and employees. Removal of nonessential military units and RV residents have continued out of abundance of cation. Currently, there are no immediate threats to assets, personnel or critical infrastructure.
There are no anticipated closures. A heavy smoke impact will remain in the area during fire fighting.
