Alpine Ranger District

The Alpine Ranger District on the Apache Sitgreaves National Forests will be conducting pile burning on the Little Timber Sale, starting October 15, 2018, weather permitting, and continuing through December 2018. The piles are located off Forest Road 275, just North of Alpine, and continue down Forest Road 275k. The burn consists of material from the Little Timber sale, which are 20’ X 20’ machine piles, and will be burned to allow for the regeneration of new seedlings and/or native grasses.

The Alpine Ranger District on the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests is planning to burn slash piles throughout the week starting February 27. The district plans to burn five units just south and east of Hulsey Lake, on Forest Road 8056, and north of Arizona State Highway 180/191, totaling 200 acres. Two other units totaling approximately 354 acres are located just north of Hulsey Lake, north of Forest Road 8056 and north of Arizona State Highway 180/191.

The Alpine Ranger District on the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests is planning to burn slash piles throughout the week starting February 21. The district plans to burn multiple units, one of the units is north of Auger Canyon in Nutrioso, south of Arizona State Highway 180/191, and along County Road 81, totaling 107 acres. The other five units are south and east of Nutrioso, along both sides of Arizona State Highway 180/191, totaling approximately 90 acres.

The Alpine Ranger District on the Apache Sitgreaves National Forests will be conducting approximately one mile of roadside pile burning along forest roads 403, 403F and Highway 191, starting October 31 and continuing through November 9, weather permitting. The burn consists of old decadent slash piles left over from the Wallow salvage sale, which will be burned to allow for the regeneration of new seedlings and/or native grasses.

The Alpine Ranger District on the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests is planning to conduct prescribed fire operations Wednesday, October 18. The district plans to burn approximately 200 acres of the Nutri 2 Unit, one mile south of Nutrioso and three miles west of Alpine.

The project covers approximately 2000 acres of Wallow Fire high severity burn area. This 200 acres test area will be used to determine future planned ignitions in this area. If the test burn provides favorable results and meets predetermined objectives, ignitions will continue the week of October 23-27.

The Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests’ Alpine Ranger District will be burning slash piles on December 15. The legal description is T3N, R29E, Section 10.  Scattered piles will be burned across roughly 50 acres of forest land. Ignition is planned for one day only and smoke impact is anticipated along Forest Road 8312. In the interest of safety, forest visitors are reminded to use caution when traveling in the vicinity of the pile burn as smoke may reduce visibility in the area.      

The Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests’ Alpine Ranger District will be burning slash piles on December 14, 2016. The legal description is T3N, R28E, Sections 25 & 26.  Scattered piles will be burned across roughly 50 acres of forest land. Ignition is planned for one day only and smoke impact is anticipated along Highway 191, and Forest Road 54. In the interest of safety, forest visitors are reminded to use caution when traveling in the vicinity of the pile burn as smoke may reduce visibility in the area.
