Ozone values to be elevated this afternoon and again tomorrow, with the 8-hour average being above the federal health standard.
A weak disturbance is moving eastward through Arizona this Thursday morning, causing nearly no impact to the weather. High pressure will build over the area later today through Saturday before a weak system brushes through the state on Sunday. After this system, high pressure will again build over the area. Overall, this pattern means no rain chances, afternoon breezes in the 5-15mph range, and high temperatures around 105 degrees.
By this weekend, expect slightly increased winds above the surface (around 10,000 feet), which will help lower ozone values, so there will be no watches of advisories this weekend, but ADEQ will be watching trends closely.
Ozone and Your Health
People most vulnerable to the impacts of air pollution include children, older adults, adults exercising outdoors, people with heart or lung disease, and those suffering from asthma and bronchitis. Exposure to ozone can increase the number and severity of asthma attacks, cause or aggravate bronchitis or other lung disease, and reduce the body's ability to fight infection. Symptoms may include itchy eyes, nose and throat, wheezing, coughing, shortness of breath, chest pain, and upper respiratory issues. View the ADEQ Ozone Fact Sheet below.
Please help reduce ozone by doing one or more of the following:
Make sure containers of household cleaners, garage and yard chemicals, and other solvents are sealed properly to prevent vapors from evaporating into the air.
