Fire crews will begin conducting tactical firing operations along the eastern portion of the planning area for the Lockett Fire, allowing fire to move in a slow and natural manner upslope and upwind across the landscape. Eighty personnel from the USDA Forest Service and National Park Service are currently assigned to the Lockett Fire. The lightning caused Duck Lake fire was discovered on July 5, and is currently at 26 acres in size. The fire is located off of Forest Road (FR)116 and FR72, and near FR72M. Firefighting resources include 1 Type 3 engine, and 1 Type 6 engine.

The Pius fire is located on the Black Mesa Ranger District, and is located southeast of the CC Cragin Reservoir, southwest of Wiggins Crossing, and north of Black Canyon Lake. The fire is currently managed under a Type 3 Incident Command structure with a full suppression strategy. Fire behavior exhibited extreme intensity Monday and was actively running, crowning to the tops of trees, and spotting ahead of the main fire. The lightning caused Weimer fire burning north of Forest Lakes and west of Heber-Overgaard is now at 1,066 acres with 80% containment.
Ignitions have been completed and remaining firefighting resources include three engines. The Weimer fire, detected on July 2, is burning within the Wagon Draw fire scar from 2009.
This will be the final update unless fire activity and weather conditions warrant.
Operations: Fire crews will continue to mop up and secure the fire perimeter by extinguishing any remaining hot spots along containment lines.

The Lockett Fire experienced no growth over the weekend, staying within interior control lines built Friday and strengthened Saturday and Sunday. Today, crews will continue making improvements to prepare the planning area perimeter area along Forest Roads 307 and 310 and along dozer and hand lines connecting the two roads.
