Pima County, ADHS announce Arizona’s first monkeypox case beyond Phoenix area

The Pima County Health Department and Arizona Department of Health Services have identified the state’s first probable monkeypox case beyond the Phoenix area. 

To date, all other cases in the state have been in Maricopa County.

The case still needs to be confirmed by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). The Health Department believes risk is low to the general population and asks the community to keep the following in mind:

  • Early symptoms of infection with monkeypox are flu-like, including fever, chills, headache, muscle aches, exhaustion, and swollen lymph nodes...

Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests resources continue suppression response to Mesa Fire

 Fire personnel from the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests are on scene and continuing their response to the Mesa Fire, located on the Black Mesa Ranger District. The fire was initially reported by a USFS lookout on the 3rd of July. A lightning strike has been determined to be the cause. The Coconino County Flood Control District would like to re-emphasize the urgency of proper and timely flood mitigation in the Doney Park neighborhood, and would like to invite residents to a community meeting Thursday, July 14 2022, at 6:30 p.m. in the Cromer Elementary School Gym.

At this meeting, flood mitigation efforts will be discussed that will be of great benefit to individual property owners. Recommended Mitigation Exhibits will be on display and residents will have the opportunity to ask questions of District staff and their Engineering Consultants.

The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality has issued an Ozone High Pollution Advisory for Saturday, July 09.

Restrictions

  • Wood burning in residential fireplaces, chimeneas, outdoor fire pits, and similar outdoor fires is prohibited in Maricopa County. This includes individuals and businesses which have burn permits for open burning.
  • Employees and contractors of government entities are prohibited from operating leaf blowers. Residents are encouraged to avoid leaf blowing during HPAs.
  • Off-road vehicle use should be avoided.
