Fire managers from the Tonto Basin Ranger District are preparing to burn six debris piles as a service for private landowners on Monday, Dec. 4, 2023.
As conditions allow, ignitions plan to begin at approximately 9:30 a.m. at four site locations and are expected to finish burning down some time in the afternoon. The four site locations include:
Punkin Center Pits - two pile burns located off state Route 188 near Forest Service Road 524 and Forest Service Road 409.
Roosevelt Pits - two pile burns located near Roosevelt work center and Forest Service Road 83- Black Bush Ranch off state Route 188.
Indian Point Pit - one pile burn located off Forest Service Road 661 heading into Indian Point at Roosevelt Lake.
Apache Lake Marina Pit - one pile burn off Forest Service Road 79 near Apache Lake Marina Resort.
The piles consist of brush and limb debris from private landowners. The work helps reduce hazardous fuels in the wildland urban interface.
Officials say they anticipate smoke impacts during ignitions with residual smoke lingering throughout the week. Smoke may impact areas near state Routes 88 and 188, the community of Tonto Basin and Apache Lake Marina Resort.
