The Barlow fire is located 30 miles NE of San Carlos, off the main Route 8 road. It started May 17 and has since burned 1,482 acres. The fire is 40 percent containment.
The fire continues to progress in an easterly direction in timber, litter and understory. There is smoldering and backing fire in various locations. The suppression strategy is full suppression.
The Barlow fire transitioned from a type 4 incident to a type 3 incident yesterday, May 21, with Dennis Logan as type 3 IC. There are 4 engines, 2 hotshot crews, 2 type 2 initial attack crews and one type 2 crew on the fire.
