Coconino National Forest firefighters have responded to a wildfire southeast of Kendrick Park today at approximately 12:35 p.m. Several firefighter crews responded to a smoke report from a drone crash north of Flagstaff today. The response included several Forest Service engines, patrols, and a water tender truck being dispatched from Summit Fire to a fire burning in more than 50-acres of forest land. Approximately 30 firefighters are working on the ground to stop the wildfire.

On Tuesday, August 1st through Friday, August 4th the Forest Service plans to conduct the annual aerial survey for insect and disease outbreaks on the Prescott National Forest. Forest Service airplanes and helicopters regularly fly over private, state, and National Forest System lands at low altitudes to perform a variety of natural resource management missions, including insect and disease surveys, remote sensing to acquire aerial images and data, and firefighting.  

NOTICE: There will be a Community Meeting Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at 7 PM in the Thatcher Middle School Cafetorium.  An American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter and Communication Access Real Time Translation (CART) will be available.

Location:  Safford Ranger District of the Coronado National Forest; 7 miles southwest of Safford, AZ.

Between June 24th and 28th, 2017, 54-year-old Gene Alan Carpenter from Prescott Valley committed the following offenses in the area of the Goodwin Fire:

ENDANGERMENT per A.R.S. 13-1201.A - Carpenter recklessly endangered 14 aircraft/aircrews and associated ground fire crews with a substantial risk of imminent death or physical injury by flying an unmanned drone aircraft in closed airspace above an active fire area during the Goodwin Fire in Mayer Arizona.
