Forest Service officials have implemented a second revision to the Highline Fire Public Safety Closure Order as of 4 a.m. Friday, June 23. The revisions are effective through 8 p.m. July 23, unless terminated sooner.

All lands and trails South of the Mogollon Rim to the Highline Trail (Trail #31), from Dry Dude Creek to the unnamed drainage east of Ellison Creek, are closed. Additionally, the Highline Trail is closed from Dry Dude Creek to Ellison Creek.

Origin: 8 mi N of Payson in 1990 Dude Fire Scar

Kaibab National Forest and Grand Canyon National Park fire resources are responding to a wildfire located southwest of Grand Canyon Airport on the Tusayan Ranger District of the Kaibab National Forest. The Rain Fire is about 150 acres in size and is being suppressed by aerial and ground firefighting resources.

Resources responding include an air attack platform, one air tanker, two single engine air tankers, one helicopter, three engines, one dozer, and three 20-person hand crews.

R-14 Fires near Cedar Creek

Several road side fires were started along Highway 73 between Canyon Day and Cedar Creek on the Fort Apache Indian Reservation. The fire is burning in a Pinyon Juniper Forest Type. The fire is estimated to be about 400 acres. Numerous resources are currently on the fire along with heavy air tankers . A fire investigator has been ordered to investigate the fire.

Highway 73 from Canyon Day to Carrizo Junction is closed until further noticed. More information will be forthcoming.

Yesterday, aerial ignitions in conjunction with helicopters dropping water to moderate fire intensity around the historic cabin and Kendrick lookout tower. Hand ignitions are planned around private property in the coming days once fire has reached a predetermined location in efforts to protect property and values at risk. Fire will continue to work its way through timber stands consuming dead and down fuels along the forest floor minimizing impacts to tree canopies.
