Haywire Fire Forces “GO” Evacuations of Alpine Ranchos Area

The US Forest Service is battling another fire in the area north of Flagstaff near Sunset Crater National Monument. The fire is in the area of Haywire Crater just east of Sunset Crater Road. After consultation with the US Forest Service resources managing the fire, the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office ordered a “GO” evacuation of the area north and east of that area.

The Antelope Fire grew to approximately 372 acres yesterday as wind spread it across a grassy landscape located 12 miles north of Sunset Crater near milepost 442 on the east side of U.S. Highway 89.

Coconino National Forest resources are responding to the two-acre Antelope Fire, located eight miles north of Sunset Crater near Highway 89 (GPS coordinates 35°28'54.0"N 111°33'21.0"W).
