Extreme heat

The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Warning for Mohave County: June 18-19; Gila, Pinal Counties: June 18-20; Cochise, Graham, Greenlee, Pima, Santa Cruz Counties: June 19-20; and a Heat Warning is ongoing for Coconino and Maricopa Counties through June 20. Daytime highs up to 116°F are expected. Public cooling centers are available in some areas. Stay cool and hydrated.

The Coconino National Forest will implement Stage 2 fire and smoking restrictions beginning 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 18 as the threat of unwanted wildfires increases due to hot, dry and windy weather conditions.

Under Stage 2 fire restrictions, the following are prohibited at all times forest-wide:

Due to severe and extreme drought conditions and an uptick in fire activity, Arizona State, federal agencies, and Tribal agencies representing southeast Arizona plan to implement Stage 2 fire restrictions.

With increasing fire danger across Arizona, Tonto National Forest officials will implement emergency stage 2 fire restrictions and recreational shooting restrictions for the entire forest beginning Thursday, May 1 at 8 a.m.
