    Areas of Coconino County within Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest to enter Stage 2 Fire Restrictions Thursday

    After consultation with Forest Lakes Fire District and the United States Forest Service (USFS), areas of Coconino County within the boundaries of the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest will enter Stage 2 Fire Restrictions at 8 a.m. Thursday, May 15, 2025.

    This decision, according to Coconino County’s Wildfire Defense Ordinance, will apply to all private property within the boundaries of the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest. This includes the unincorporated community of Forest Lakes and all private campgrounds and recreation areas.

    Cochise County to conduct Wireless Emergency Alert test on May 16, 2025

    The Cochise County Emergency Management Department will conduct a test of the Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) system on Friday, May 16, 2025, at 12:00 PM (noon).

    This test will send a live WEA message to smartphones across the county. The message will read:
    "TEST: Cochise County Wireless Emergency Alert. No action required. This is a test of the emergency alert system."

    Overnight, cooler temperatures and increased relative humidity levels helped keep fire activity minimal through Monday’s night shift. Two hotshot crews worked to hold, improve, and secure any uncontained line along the east flank of the fire. Last night engines patrolled across the fire’s perimeter ,including around the structures monitoring for any issues or concerns that could potentially threaten the line during Tuesday’s critical fire weather.

    Prescott National Forest Plans Goldwater Prescribed Burn May 20–31 to Reduce Wildfire Risk and Improve Forest Health

    Fire managers on the Prescott National Forest plan to conduct prescribed fire operations in the Prescott Basin on the Bradshaw Ranger District south of Prescott, Arizona.

    Ignitions are planned to start Tuesday May 20 through 31 depending on weather conditions and resource availability. The Goldwater Prescribed Burn is located east of Highway 89 and Ponderosa Park Road; west of School House Gulch Road; north of Marapai Road; and west of Goldwater Lake.

    Resources will remain on scene to monitor and patrol in the days following the prescribed burn.
