Prescribed pile burns planned on the Lakeside Ranger District

The Lakeside Ranger District of the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests will be burning slash piles on March 30th, if conditions allow. The ignition area is on Forest Road 45/ County Road 3144 and Forest Road 44. Piles will be burned across roughly 20 acres of forest land.

Ignition is planned for one day only and possible smoke impact is anticipated along Forest Road 45/ County Road 3144, Forest Road 44, and lite impacts to the community of Vernon. Each year, nine out of ten wildfires across the country are started by people. In 2021, 71 percent of Arizona’s fires were human-caused. As the temperatures start to rise and vegetation starts to dry out, the state will begin to see an increase in fire activity. Therefore, it is extremely important for residents and visitors to do their part to prevent wildfires.

Bureau of Land Management to conduct prescribed fire in the Hualapai Mountains

Fire managers from the Bureau of Land Management Colorado River District are planning
to conduct a prescribed fire in the Hualapai Mountains, 20 miles southeast of Kingman. Burning operations will take place in Bull and Blue Tank Canyons over multiple days between mid-February to the end of March, pending appropriate weather and fuel conditions.

Prescribed Burn planned on the Chino Valley Ranger District

Fire managers on the Bradshaw & Chino Valley Ranger District will begin implementation of two prescribed burns beginning Wednesday, March 23 through Tuesday, March 29, 2022, pending favorable weather conditions.  Fire mangers will burn Cement Tank RX first, then Wineglass RX using hand and aerial ignitions.

Pima County has investigated four cases of potential rabies exposures in wildlife in March and advises the public to stay away when seeing animals acting oddly or lying on the ground.

Two of those cases were in bats. Another case was a high-risk cat, and the other involved a javelina. All were negative for rabies.
